Product Description

Luxury Hand Woven Shawl Using Handspun Organic Merino Wool Natural / Eco Dyed with Privet Leaves - HW15

This luxurious, hand woven shawl is made using my handspun and natural dyed soft organic merino yarn, giving it a beautiful drape. I have hand spun and hand natural dyed the yarn with privet leaves from my own garden. It is the perfect size to throw around your shoulders at a spring wedding, or a late afternoon garden party or picnic … it’s cosy enough to sit by the fire and read your favourite book too!

Shawl details are:-

- approximately 168 x 68 centimetres, 66 x 27 inches
- handspun Organic Merino Wool Natural / Eco Dyed with Privet Leaves
- weave structure is "twill"

The shawl pins are not included but are available separately on my website.

Receiving your shawl and caring for it:-
Washing the shawl before use is not required, as I care for them here before they leave me. When you do come to wash your shawl make sure to be gentle with it. A woven shawl should last you many years.
A tepid hand wash is all that is necessary, squeeze dry and then dry flat (you may also roll in a towel to get the worst of the water out). Please make sure to not overly rub or agitate the shawl… as wool felts easily!
If you are using soap on your shawl, make sure to use PH Neutral soap as acidic soaps can leach colours and ultimately bleach natural shades of wool. This is not a result of poor dyeing, but instead a result of the acid destroying the fibre (which will cause wear over time).

Process:
To give you an idea of the time it takes to create this product I have written a brief process for you.
Day 1 – Wool fibre is purchased directly from the local mill
Day 2-10 – Wool fibre is handspun on my spinning wheel
Day 11-14 – Yarns are washed and dried to set the twist
Day 15 – Yarns are prepped for dyeing and privet leaves are picked
Day 16-17 - Yarns are dyed with privet leaves
Day 18-20 – Yarns are set out to dry
Day 21 – Yarn is prepped for weaving
Day 22 – The warp is set up on my loom
Day 23-27 – The shawl is woven
Day 28-29 – The shawl is washed, rinsed and dried to set the weave
Day 30 – The shawl is prepped for selling

Terms of sale:-
Please read my full policies before purchase.

Please note that I photograph all my products to reflect the colours as accurately as I can (if there is any slight discrepancy I will note this in the description) but, however good my photographs are, the colours can appear different on other computer screens. I will always do my best, but I am at the mercy of your computer when viewing these images.

Handspun, Handwoven & Natural Plant Dyed Yarn

Welcome to Wivey Weaver - Yarn Alchemy based on the edge of Exmoor in beautiful Somerset, England. I am a weaver, spinner and natural plant dyer working with the best fibre and yarn I can find. Most of the fibre I spin comes from a local mill and my natural dyes come from plants in my own garden.
